Actually it can be both it depends on the cheese. I’m be sure of the ratio of calf rennet to non-animal rennet in cheeses but a lot of cheeses just say “rennet” and I usually assume it’s calf rennet. It also depends on the type of cheese (I’ve heard soft cheeses are usually made without it but I don’t eat much soft cheese) Parmesan I’m pretty sure (correct me if I’m wrong) Must be made with calf rennet or it can’t be sold under the name.
But a quick search on the laughing cow website FAQ says that they do not use animal rennet, and all their products are suitable for vegetarians.
